We have been turning the Burglar Bill story we have been learning into a story featuring Father Christmas who started off like Burglar Bill stealing things but then he meets Mother Christmas and changes to be the Father Christmas we know today. The children can change or keep whatever they want in the story. Will it be a baby they find or an elf? What food and drink will he munch and slurp on? I can't wait to read the changed stories.

Start by recapping what alliteration is e.g. Burglar Bill - what other names could we use alliteration for? Hungry Helen, Lovely Lisa, repeat for other names
The focus of the lesson is to continue to work on improving our descriptions by adding adjectives and conjunctions to our sentences to improve them. In the story we have the repeated sentence "He spotted a nice toothbrush so he put it in his sack." "He spotted a nice tin of beans so he put it in his sack."
Can we pretend we are writing about Burglar Bill going around stealing things but improve the adjectives and maybe the verb to improve the sentences.
e.g. He spied a bright, orange handbag so he shoved it in his sack. He spied a giant, snuggly teddy bear so he shoved it in his sack.

In school, we will discuss how to create good characters in stories, we will talk about how using precise adjectives helps to create pictures in our heads of the different characters. I will show different characters from the books in our familiar book box and discuss precise adjectives for them (not just 1).
We will then move on to looking at the impact verbs can have in a story to create good characters and recap on the verbs (doing words) from the story e.g. slurped, munched, climbed.
We will look through powerful verbs PP and improve the boring verb sentences by choosing better verbs but also adding adjectives, conjunctions, extra detail to make the sentences come alive more.

Today we will start by referring back to the timeline to give context

Next we will learn about different types of evidence - primary and secondary Evidence PP
then sort these examples of evidence into primary or secondary in books Primary or Secondary evidence
Now look at pictures of evidence and
recap– Are they primary or secondary
evidence? How much should we believe? Look through the prove it statements - which picture proves which statement? Record which number picture proves each statement. Prove it statements

Miss Gray is teaching the children how to search effectively and safely on search engines, then the children are using these to learn more facts about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot.
- The children have been using the search engine https://www.safesearchkids.com
- When searching for facts it is a good idea to put KS1 or for children or for kids so that the information is easier to read.

We will be continuing to learn the story Burglar Bill by heart and thinking of actions to help us.
Then we are going to use the descriptions we used yesterday to create a Wanted poster for Burglar Bill. We will describe what Burglar Bill looks like, where he might be found and what to do if you see him. The children will be encouraged to extend the sentences using conjunctions (so, with, who) to help to encourage them to add extra detail.

In class we will be continuing to try to learn the story of Burglar Bill by heart, using the pictures we drew yesterday and adding our own actions as we read it.
Then we are going to think of some adjectives to describe Burglar Bill, using a thesaurus to improve and widen our adjectives. Next we will write some descriptive sentences about Burglar Bill. I will challenge the children to write extended sentences with more than one description of him in each sentence. If time we will also write about Baker Bill at the end too.
History
We will continue to learn more about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zjkj382/articles/zjsqbdm
We will look at some pictures of York so the children can link it with a place some may have visited and talk about Guy Fawkes coming from our locality.
Finally I will ask the children to answer the questions:
Who is Guy Fawkes?
Why are we learning about him?
Why did he do what he did?
Why do we remember this each year?
PSHE
We will discuss what a family is. We will discuss different kids of families we and others have but that they are all characterised by being based on love and care.

We have started to learn about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot Gunpowder Plot Story PP
We talked about it being 400 years ago and how each hundred year starts with different numbers, we are in 2000s, before it was 1900s, before that was 1800s, before that was 1700s and before that was 1600s which is the time we are thinking about
I asked the children to sequence the events from the story into the correct order (these need mixing up and then chopping up) Gunpowder Plot story sequencing
Finally we looked at a timeline of all the events from the birth of Guy Fawkes in York until his execution (again these need chopping up and muddling up so they can be put back in the correct chronological order) Gunpowder Plot timeline
