Where are you Derwent Class ?

Hi Derwent, I haven't had many emails this week or last, I would love to see what you are doing and have a photo to put on the blog so your friends can see too.

I have been in school as usual but I am also really enjoying having football to watch again. I am a Leeds United fan. Our first match didn't go so well but then we won our second match. So I'm really excited to see what happens in the rest of the season. Also, I have just booked a few days away in the Lakes in the Summer Holidays so I've got something lovely to look forward to. I'd love to hear what you've got planned for the Summer Holidays
Get in touch soon, Mrs Burton

Y2 Writing Unit (It is labelled as a Y3 unit but it is also suitable for Y2s)

Y3 Writing Unit (It is labelled as a Y2 unit but it is also suitable for Y3s)

Spellings  - Common exception words
For the rest of this half term I would like the children to recap the set of tricky words it is expected for their year group to be able to spell by the end of the year. This is a chance to not only recap spellings but also work on handwriting too. Each week I would suggest a child does 1 page each from the booklets

Weekly Wider Curriculum Tasks

Geography - Now you know a little about which places are hot and cold in the world. I want you to choose one cold country to learn more about.  Where is it? How would you travel there and how long would it take? What can you learn about the people, language, money, lifestyle, famous landmarks, things to do. How is it the same or different to Great Britain?

Present it in whatever way you want e.g. PowerPoint, poster, booklet, video

Science - The Environment  - Water Wise Read through the Power Point then do the investigation to see if you can save water Investigation sheet

DT - Make - This week I want you to make your product - look at your plan to help you

Story: Many statues around the world have been questioned for their purpose and value in recent weeks.

Question: Why do we have statues?

RE Ongoing Task

We would like you to learn more about the Churches in your local area.
What are they called? How are they the same and how are they different?
Think about why they are special to some people. Talk to people who have been inside to find out more about what is the same and different inside and why that might be.
Can you work out what all or most Churches seem to have?
You could also research 1 or more of the Churches and find about their history
or even do some Art or DT work inspired by them.

Pippa's story stones

Pippa has had a go at making the story stones suggested by Mrs Gay last week, aren't they good?
I wonder if you could make up a story using them?

She even made a bag for them to go in. Her talents know no end!

Weekly Wider Curriculum Tasks

Geography - Which animals can you find in hot or cold countries? Use this hot and cold animals mat to help you discuss this. Why might those animals live in hot or cold countries? Discuss and research as needed. Once the children feel confident ask them to do this sorting activity

Science - The Environment  - This links well with Geography too. You are going to learn all about Rainforests and after reading the Forest Friends PowerPoint, I would like you to think of 3 questions you have about what you have read and then try and find the answers

DT - Skills - Before you make your product you need to practice the skills you will need to make it so that you can do the best job possible
1)Think about how you are going to stick things together? Glue? Tape? Blu-tac? Staples? Have a try at sticking 2 materials together using different sticky things. Which works best? Which will you use when you make your product?
2)How is your cutting? Have a try. Try cutting out some pictures or ask someone to draw some straight and wavy lines and see if you can follow the lines with your scissors.

French
This is your chance to recap the colour names and talk to people at home about colours. Here is a song to help you remember how to say some of them

Picture News - Virtual assembly 22nd June

Story: Following a three-month closure period, Chester Zoo and many other zoos have been allowed to reopen.

Question: Should zoos have been allowed to reopen earlier?
