Homework week beginning 23rd May

This week the children are learning number bonds, as so many children are learning different ones, I have given paper copies to each child to learn at home. Some are learning number bonds to 10, 20 or 100. If you don't have this please let me know and I will get another.

Apologies, it says the test will be on Friday, however it is a training day on Friday so the test will be on Thursday.

MyMaths

This week in school we have been recapping the work we did earlier in the year on money. We have looked at making different amounts and counting coins and notes. Then we looked at how to find change by subtracting or finding the difference if the numbers are close to each other. I have set a MyMaths homework to help the children practise this.

Work for children isolating

Wednesday

Mental Maths - Hit the Button - keep working on those division facts ready for the test on Friday

Maths - Today we are looking at money again but this time how to give change.

How to give change - BBC Bitesize

We have covered this previously so it should be a bit of a recap. We will look at subtracting from different amounts - change from 20p, change from 50p, change from £1 (100p). The children could use column subtraction or counting back to help them.

Here is a game for the children to play - make sure you choose the change game. Have fun!

Toy Shop Money Game (GBP) - Topmarks

P.E - choose another Cosmic Yoga to stretch your body and have some fun.

DT  - the topic this half term is wheels and axles. Can you tell people at home what wheels and axles are? Do you have anything at home you could use to make wheels and axles?

Work for children isolating

Tuesday

Reading - If you are able to send someone in to collect the book we are reading, feel free, if not, why not read the book bag book again from last week, showing expression as you read.

Maths - Today we are recapping totalling coins and choosing the right coins to match the amounts. If you have coins in the house - choose 5 different coins and see if your child can say how much is there. If this is too easy, try adding some notes. Can they tell you how many pounds and how many pence?

Then turn it around the other way - choose a total e.g 28p - can they tell you which coins you need to make it? Repeat increasing the difficulty if they are able. Now have a go at these questions

History
Today we are looking at some different primary sources to see what else we can learn about Florence Nightingale - why don't you have a search on the internet and see what else you can find out. Maybe make a poster showing what you have learned about Florence Nightingale.

Arithmetic - we are recapping column subtraction this week. So we'll do a few each day to remind us how to do them and what to do when we can't add the ones. Can you remember? Have a go at these. Write them in columns then work them out.

45 - 21 =                78 - 45 =            61 - 33 =             92 - 68 =

Work for children isolating

Monday

Mental Maths - Today we drew arrays to show the different division sums we are learning this week. We drew different amounts of rows of 5s for our partners to guess which division it was. We also looked at division being the opposite of multiplication and wrote the matching sums e.g. 5 divided by 5 = 1 matches with 1 x 5 = 5 - can you do the same?

Maths - we looked at weighing today using kg and g. Then we weighed different objects using kitchen weighing scales, learning how to read how much each one weighed. If you have some at home, why don't you look at how much different things around the home weigh?

English - today we started a new unit - we are going to be learning how to write to persuade people. Before the children learn how to do this, all I asked the children to do was write about their houses and family - telling me what's good about them and why someone might want to come and visit. I can't wait to read it!

P.E - If you are feeling well enough - why don't you choose a Cosmic Yoga from YouTube to have a go at?

Homework week beginning 16th May

This week we will be focussing on division facts for the times tables we looked at last week so 5s for the majority of children. Here they are if you want to look at them at home too.

Maths Homework

The children have continued to work on time this week so I have set another MyMaths homework based on this. Time is something children learn best in small doses so whenever you get chance and you have a clock face at home, feel free to talk to them about what time it is. This week we have been looking at durations of time and have discussed quarter, half and full hours and how long each of these are. The more familiar the children are with the clocks the better they are at telling and understanding time.

Homework week beginning 9th May

This week we are moving on to the 5 times tables. The children are doing really well at learning these facts by heart.

Maths Homework

This week the task set on MyMaths is based on reading the time to quarter past and quarter to.
