Alice has been busy this week. Here she is looking at a map of the world and she has also been working on her typing skills. She wrote me a lovely letter telling me all about her week.

Fancy doing something a little different?

Miss Craven has shared  with teachers some origami she has been doing with her Y6 class.
If you fancy doing some too here is one a little easier for you to have a go at.
You will need to show some determination and perseverance to succeed.
I'd love to see what you make

Anyone for yoga?

Why don't you have a go at some yoga today?
I've had a go and it's lots of fun and really good to improve posture, balance, focus plus lots more

Has your child used Hit the Button recently?
It's a great website for children aged 5-11 to help them to learn those all important number facts that so much of their Maths work is based upon.
  • They can start by learning the number facts which make 10, then move on to making 20 or 100.
  • Also the children need to learn by heart doubling and halving facts for different numbers.
  • This website also allows the children to work on individual or mixed times tables. Both multiplication and division. Feel free to make this part of the children's daily routine whilst off school, it's fun and can only help their mental recall.

Phonics Recap

In class we have been recapping the Set 2 sounds.
The children did well remembering the sounds, they could mostly blend the sounds together to read the words but needed work when moving on to reading the words speedily (without overt sounding) which is the next step.
Here are the sounds Set 2 and 3 Speed Sound Book
Please encourage your child to tell you the sound, blend the sound to read the word but then move on to being able to read the words speedily without the need for sounding out. This is where the fluency with their reading will improve.

Quangle Wangle Hats

Thank you to everyone who has sent me photos of their versions of the Quangle Wangle Hats.
I've loved seeing them all and hearing about how you have decided to make them.

Here are Libby and Charlie brilliantly modelling theirs.

Don't forget if you want to show me what work you have been doing, I'd love to see it. My email address is mrsburton2020@carlton-in-snaith.n-yorks.sch.uk

Geography - Here is a list of countries from around the world, use a world map or globe and find out which continents they are in
UK, Brazil, France, China, New Zealand, Canada, Sudan, USA, Portugal, Nigeria, Australia, Paraguay, India,
Did you find any countries in Antartica?

Computing - Word Processing - Text Formatting

Music - In school we listened to a song, found the pulse and tapped along, then tried to identify the different instruments we could hear. Now can you do this at home?
Choose some songs you and your family like. Can you find and tap to the constant beat (pulse)? Then can you listen and try to work out what instruments are being used? Enjoy!

Art - Following on from last week, have a go at some other shading techniques

Picture News

Story: A charity are campaigning to allow clearer guidance on how care homes can open their doors safely to visiting family and friends.

Question: Should visits to care homes be allowed?

Freya is enjoying completing the blog tasks as well as supporting her brother with his.
Here is a poster Freya made about washing hands - combining algorithms and typing skills to create it.

Week beginning 14th September

Home Learning Tasks

Maths
Wider Curriculum
  • Geography – Look at some different world maps – can your child find where we live? Discuss this being called the UK. Tell the children the world is split into 7 continents and has 5 oceans – can they find them on the maps and begin to learn their names?
  • Computing - Algorithms - Hand washing remains important so challenge your child to write a set of instructions,  an algorithm, for how to wash their hands thoroughly. They could create this as a poster  for the classroom or a postcard for home. Can they follow the instructions?  Are the instructions precise enough? Test and debug their algorithms by following them
  • Computing - Word Processing - Typing
  • Art - sketching (light and dark)

In Art last week, we began to look at how to create light and dark lines by changing the way we held our pencils. Show your child the grids below to show we can also create light and dark by the amount of lines and space. Can they do the same? Can they think of something they might draw where this technique might be useful?

Well done Libby for showing such a great attitude to your work this week.
Her independent attitude to her Maths and English has already impressed her Dad and me.

A great role model to the others!
