I would like the children to finish their Diana Whittington stories from yesterday. Before doing this children should retell the stories using actions, ensuring they include the changes in this and look back at the Boxing up to remind them what has changed and what has stayed the same. Don't forget to use the Word Bank you made in Tuesday's lesson.

Please send me the finished stories, I can't wait to see them and this will help me to plan for their story writing next week. It is fine for adults to help with the stories.

What will your bridge look like? What will you make it out of? What properties will your material need to have? Maybe you will need to plan and make a design first?

Watch the video if you need help and have a go at making your own paper bridge! You could use anything small like coins or toy cars to test the strength of your bridge

Forest School (Optional)

Create an outdoor reading space for yourself or to share with your family.

Take your favourite book on your walk and sit under a tree, in a park, on a log or bench. Enjoy the freedom, peace and fresh air while reading or listening to the book of your choice!

World Book Day

(World Book Day Link to live author events at 10.30)

Take some time today to talk about books with your family.

What are your favourites? Why? Is there a type of book or story you like best?

Do you have a favourite author? Who and why?

What do you like about reading/books?

Reading

In the night comprehension lesson for Mrs Burton's reading group

Mrs Pemberton's group - reading for pleasure - choose a book from the Sora app if you haven't done already and read. Perhaps when you finish your book you could write about it so it can help other children to decide if they want to read it or not

Diana Whittington Boxing up to help the children remember the changes.

I would like the children to write the first half of the Diana Whittington story today (opening, build up, problem if time), it is important that they only change what I have suggested (character and animals) so that they are still using the structure and vocabulary from the original story in their own writing. (That is why we learned the story by heart - so encourage them to keep retelling the story and using the actions)

Remember to use the Word Banks that you made in Tuesday's lesson to help you with tricky spellings.

(Next week at school, I promise they can use all the wonderful ideas I know they will have, to change the story further and make it their own, for now I want them to write my changed story)

Missing doing your TT Rockstars at school?

TT Rockstars have brought out a new game called Jamming where you can choose which times tables you want to work on.

You can choose the number.

You can choose multiplication or division or both, just like at school.

There's no timer either so you can do it at your own pace and then work on speed after.

Why don't you have a go now on whatever number you are on at school and in no time you'll be moving on!

If you've forgotten your password or username just email me and I'll let you know what it is.

Have fun!

I would like the children to box up the story so they can see how Dick Whittington is made up of a beginning, build up, problem, resolution and ending. Here is a blank boxing up grid which shows the different parts of a  "change" story. The children don't need to write the whole story, just a few words/ phrases/sentences to show what part Dick Whittington links with each section.

Boxing up for Dick Whittington

Mrs Burton's Boxing up (for parents only if needed)

Once finished, children need to start to think about what parts of the Dick Whittington story we could change to make our own stories. Tomorrow, Mrs Burton will change just a few small things in the story for you to write about and then next week at school, the children will get the chance to make other changes to the story.

At last, you get chance to read the Dick Whittington story you have been learning.

Once you have read it a few times, I want you to pick out the words that are tricky spellings - ones that you might not be able to spell on your own and create a word bank for yourself (a list of words you need help to spell) so you can look at this when you are writing your own story. You can use this Blank word bank or make your own
