Homework week beginning 27th September

Here are the words we will be learning at school this week, if you have time it would be great for the children to learn them at home too, there will be a spelling test on Friday

Maths Homework

There is a task set on MyMaths but feel free to keep working on your 10 times tables on TT Rockstars

Reading

As last week, the children will have a library book to read for pleasure which they need to bring back ready for their Wednesday library session if they want a new one.

On Thursday, the children will bring home the reading book they have read at school plus a Book bag reading book for them to read a few times, before bringing both back to school on Monday.
When reading the Book bag reading book we suggest they read this at least 3 times. The first read allows the child to concentrate on reading the words. The second read allows the child to develop their fluency and speed of reading. The third read allows for the children to understand the story (so feel free to ask questions about the story) and show off their story telling voices when reading.

Homework week beginning 20th September

Here are the words we will be learning at school this week, if you have time it would be great for the children to learn them at home too, there will be a spelling test on Friday

These may seem easy but I want to check the children know these before moving onto Y2 words and other spelling patterns. It also means they can build up confidence

Maths Homework

There are no suitable MyMaths homework again this week so instead can the children play this Ordering game using numbers up to 100 and Helicopter Rescue - Mental Maths for 4 to 8 Year Olds (topmarks.co.uk) to help the children get really fluent at knowing where numbers are compared to each other.
Feel free to also use TT Rockstars. In school we have done some multiplication and division of 10s (the children just learn to add a 0 when multiplying by 10 and take a 0 off when dividing by 10)

Reading homework
The children should have come home on Wednesday with a library book, this is a book they have chosen, to read for pleasure. If they want to change their book, they must bring it in by Wednesday when they go to the library again. If not they can keep the book for 2 or 3 weeks.
Children should also have brought home 2 reading books as they did last year, 1 which they have read at school and 1 they have not, please can the children read these a few times then can these be returned on Monday?

Homework week beginning 13th September

 Spellings

Here are the words we will be learning at school this week, if you have time it would be great for the children to learn them at home too, there will be a spelling test on Friday

Maths Homework

On Friday I sent home letters on how to access TT Rockstars, this week I would like the children to work on their 10 times tables. I have just set 10s under the icon garage for the first few weeks then as the weeks go by the children will have the chance to work on 2 and then 5 times tables. This week in Maths we have been recapping counting in 2s, 5s and 10s so you might just need to explain e.g. 2 x 10 means count in tens 2 times (10,20). We will be starting times tables in class this week too. If there are any problems let me know.

Reading Books

Reading books will be going home on Thursday, please can these be returned on Monday

Spelling Test

Each week the children will learn how to spell a set of words at school using a variety of strategies and games. If you would like to help your child learn these at home they will be uploaded at the beginning of each week on the blog ready for the spelling test on Fridays.

For the first few weeks we are recapping Y1 tricky words, which Miss Jackson covered throughout English lessons across last year

Further Maths and Reading homework will be added once the children settle in.

English

I would like the children to finish their Diana Whittington stories from yesterday. Before doing this children should retell the stories using actions, ensuring they include the changes in this and look back at the Boxing up to remind them what has changed and what has stayed the same. Don't forget to use the Word Bank you made in Tuesday's lesson.

Please send me the finished stories, I can't wait to see them and this will help me to plan for their story writing next week. It is fine for adults to help with the stories.

What will your bridge look like? What will you make it out of? What properties will your material need to have? Maybe you will need to plan and make a design first?

Watch the video if you need help and have a go at making your own paper bridge! You could use anything small like coins or toy cars to test the strength of your bridge

Forest School (Optional)

Create an outdoor reading space for yourself or to share with your family.

Take your favourite book on your walk and sit under a tree, in a park, on a log or bench. Enjoy the freedom, peace and fresh air while reading or listening to the book of your choice!
